A gay couple have reportedly been arrested in Indonesia after posting a photo of themselves kissing on Facebook.

In the photos they are seen kissing each other while topless.

The caption on the post read: "With my dear lover tonight. May our love last forever", according to Pink News.

Authorities then detained them, claiming the image was pornographic.

A local police statement confirmed they arrested the two men after reports of "pornography in the form of two men canoodling".

"The couple admitted it's them in the picture and they posted the picture to prove their love," local police spokesman Marzuki told AFP.

It is believed police plan to charge the men with breaking anti-pornography laws.

The couple, aged 22 and 24 from the country's North Sulawesi province, could face a jail sentence if they are found guilty.

While homosexuality is not illegal in Indonesia, there has been a growing backlash against gay people in the world's most populous Muslim-majority country.
