“I'd like to punch him in the face” – De Niro blasts Trump

US actor and director speaking as part of a campaign to encourage voter turnout

Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has launched a scathing attack on US presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The actor is one of a number of celebrities to take part in the #voteyourfuture campaign to encourage voters to take part in the upcoming elections.

Asked the same question as the other celebrities involved in the campaign – "What do you care about?" – De Niro was characteristically forthright with his views.

The actor’s submission was not included in the final campaign; however it has now been released on social media.

In the video, a visibly angry De Niro launched a tirade of insults at the Republican nominee, calling him “so blatantly stupid.”

“He is a punk. He is a dog. He is a pig. He is a con, a bullshit artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he is talking about,” he said.

“He is an embarrassment to this country. It makes me so angry that that this country has gotten to the point where this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has.”

“What I care about is the direction of this country and what I’m very, very worried about is that it might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump.”

The actor signed off by saying, "If you care about your future, vote for it:"
