A status yellow rain warning is in place today for Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry.

The Met Éireann alert is valid from 1am this morning until midnight.

Rainfall of between 25 to 35mm is expected, with outbreaks of rain turning persistent and heavy as the day goes on.

Elsewhere, it will be mainly dry with a few bright or sunny spells.

It will be a blustery, however, with strong and gusty southeasterly winds. Top temperatures will range from 15 to 17 degrees.

Tonight will continue to be wet in western coastal counties with some heavy falls leading possibly to localised flooding.

Further east, it will remain mostly dry and mild. Lowest temperatures will be between 10 to 13 degrees.

Fresh to strong and gusty southeast winds will moderate overnight.
