Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has said cooperation is necessary for tackling organised crime.

It comes after a man was arrested in Malaga today in connection with the murder of Gary Hutch in Spain last year.

Gardaí, assisted by the Guardia Civil in Spain, also launched a series of raids in six areas of Dublin this morning.

Some €23,000 in cash was seized, along with counterfeit documents relating to money laundering.

The raids - organised by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Criminal Assets Bureau - were the result of a "significant" investigation into organised crime.

The operation was supported by a number of agencies.

Spanish officers have been helping gardaí investigating the Kinahan-Hutch gangland feud for a number of months.

Detective Superintendent Tony Howard explained: "This morning a number of gardaí were present with members of the Guardia Civil in Malaga.

"They carried out a number of searches in Spain, and one person has been arrested in relation to the homicide of Gary Hutch in Spain in 2015," he added.

Tánaiste Fitzgerald told Newstalk Drive this shows progress in tackling gangland crime.
