A man in his 40s has been charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis herb worth an estimated €60,000.

The man was arrested after three large bags of the drug were discovered in the car he was travelling in on Thursday. 

The black Ford Focus had been stopped at a routine checkpoint on the M11 in Ashford. It was subsequently seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.

The suspect was detained at Wicklow garda station and charged yesterday evening.

He was bailed to appear before Bray District Court on September 20th at 10.30am.
