The secretary of state in charge of the UK's exit from the European Union has spent the day in Northern Ireland meeting politicians and business leaders.

David Davis agreed that governments on both sides of the Irish Border want access to open trade and travel.

Independent ministers meeting with Government officials on Apple tax ruling

Meetings between Independent ministers and various Government officials on the Apple tax ruling took place today ahead of tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.

Ministers and TDs from the Independent Alliance met this afternoon to discuss their position, but the meeting ended after over an hour. 

The group, which has two ministers at Cabinet, are to continue discussions on various fronts and are expected to make a decision in advance of tomorrow's meeting.

Tsunami warning issued after 7.1-magnitude earthquake off New Zealand coast

New Zealand's North Island has been shaken by a 7.1 quake, with local reports warning coastal residents to move to higher ground.

The earthquake struck at about 4.40am local time and was centered about 130km northeast of Te Araroa at a depth of about 33km.

The quake was felt as far south as Akaroa - about halfway down the South Island - and as far north as Kerikeri, about 240km north of Auckland.
