When it comes to dramatising the life of very real criminals, it’s a fine line to walk between glorifying and admonishing. Which is what makes Netflix’s surprise bilingual hit Narcos so affecting, having managed to make the very well-publicised life of the tyrannical drug runner Pablo Escobar so thrilling and entertaining. But with Season Two arriving on September 2nd, a new trailer shows that the show is about to move in a very different direction – who killed Pablo Escobar?

The trailer, embedded below, shows the kind of action that turned Narcos’ debut season into a sleeper hit, and reminds us that Pablo, an antihero up there with Walter White and Tony Soprano, will meet his maker at some point in the show’s run of 10 episodes. But just who pulled the trigger, or whether Pablo will take anyone else with him will have viewers binging their way through the season.

As per Netflix’s official press release, “Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the infamous drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. Its gritty storytelling details the many, often-conflicting forces – legal, political, police, military and civilian – the clash in the effort to control cocaine, one of the world’s most valuable commodities.”

With news reports that a third season has already been greenlit, the drug trade will definitely outlive Pablo Escobar. Whether or not Narcos can get by without its Brazilian star Wagner Moura remains to be seen. Check out the trailer in full below:
