A body has been recovered during the search for a fisherman missing off the west Cork coast.

It is understood the body was recovered at around 11am this morning by a fishing vessel.

The alarm was raised at 7.30pm yesterday evening when a man in his 60s failed to return to port in Schull.

He had left on a fishing trip earlier in the day.

A major search operation - involving local rescue boats, the LÉ Orla naval vessel and a Coast Guard helicopter - resumed this morning.
