'Generic uniforms could help to ease the burden on parents' says cabinet minister

Pascal Donohoe calls for a reduction in prices for parents of students across the country

A cabinet minister says he doesn't see any reason why there shouldn't be generic school uniforms.

There's been calls for the move that would reduce back to school costs for parents.

A Barnardos survey earlier this month showed one in ten parents is forced into debt to pay back to school costs.

Minister Paschal Donohoe says generic uniforms could help to ease the burden on parents: "I do believe that school uniforms should be made available to families on the cheapest possible basis."

I believe that school uniforms can make such a big difference in dealing with other costs that families can sometimes face in their kids going to school, but I do believe that they should be made available at the cheapest and most cost-effective basis possible."
