A number of buildings have been evacuated in Waterford city after a security alert.

There are reports of one bomb in the city council offices and one in the Theatre Royal next door.

A number of buildings in the area of The Mall have been evacuated, and the road has been closed off.

Armed Gardaí and the bomb squad are currently at the scene.

Waterford's mayor Adam Wyse told Newstalk that initial reports had suggested there was a bomb in Theatre Royal set to go off at 1pm, and another in the City Council office for 1.20pm.

However, he said the situation now "appears to be under control".
