Man detained after young driver is killed in suspected hit-and-run on N24
A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal two-car collision in Kilkenny earlier today.
The crash on the N24 near Fiddown claimed the life of a man in his 20s.
Gardaí said the car driven by the victim collided with a second vehicle at around 1am this morning.
The young man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was seriously injured and pronounced dead a short time later.
His body was taken to University Hospital Waterford for a postmortem examination.
Gardaí said the driver of the second vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
The man arrested this afternoon is being detained at Thomastown station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
