The man, who is 42, admits assaulting his wife with a hammer but denies all the other charges
A woman has given evidence of the night she claims her husband raped her after threatening her with a large kitchen knife.
She told the jury he refused to accept their marriage was over and she thought he was going to kill her.
The woman, whose identity is protected, walked behind her husband in the dock to take her seat in the witness box this afternoon.
They got married in 2000 and their only child was born a few years later.
She said problems first arose when their son was six months old because he felt she was giving the baby all her attention.
Things got worse and she told him she wanted a separation in 2014.
She claims he head-butted her on their son’s birthday that year, and after spending a few nights with her parents, she said she returned to their home in Dublin to find him sitting on the sofa with a cigarette after pouring lighter fluid on the furniture.
She claims he forced her to have sex with him after threatening her with a knife during an argument on May 25th 2014.
She said she was terrified and felt she had to do it just to survive.
