It’s a tale as old as time, involving a giant entertainment conglomerate understanding that rifling through its back catalogue of hits to mine for box office gold. And so, the first teaser trailer has debuted for Walt Disney’s live-action retelling of its early 90s animated smash hit Beauty & the Beast, set for its global debut on St Patrick’s Day, 2017.
Directed by Bill Condon, and features British actress Emma Watson as Belle and Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens as the Beast. The all-star cast also includes Luke Evans as Gaston, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Josh Gad as LeFou, and the voices of Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, and Stanley Tucci as Cadenza.
While the teaser doesn’t give much of the film away, fans of the original – the first animated film to be nominated for the ‘Best Picture’ category at the Oscars – will be happy to know that the live-action version will feature many of the songs Alan Menken won an Academy Award for in the 1991 hit.
