Morning top 5: Missing EgyptAir plane, Michael Fitzmaurice quits and Clare Daly arrest leak

The headlines this morning...

An EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar with 56 passengers and 10 crew on board, the airline says.

Flight MS804 departed the French capital at 11.09pm CEST (10.09pm Irish time) before vanishing, according to what the airline described as "an informed source".

The airline said that the plane, which carried two babies and one child among its passengers, was three hours and 40 minutes into the four-hour flight when it lost contact with radar.

Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice has quit the Independent Alliance grouping.

Deputy Fitzmaurice was the only member of the grouping not to vote for Enda Kenny as Taoiseach.

In a statement last night, he said he felt he had to leave as his access to speaking time in the chamber while still in the grouping would be limited.

Independent TD Clare Daly has claimed that information designed to damage her was leaked because she questioned how gardaí were operating the penalty points system.

Garda watchdog GSOC said yesterday that it was probable details on her arrest three years ago were leaked to the media by members of the force.

The TD believes the leak was an attempt to smear her after she raised questions about garda malpractice.
