A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with critical injuries

One man has died and another is in a critical condition following a crash on the outskirts of Cork.

The two-car collision happened at Leemount Cross in Ballincollig.

Gardaí say a car carrying five men collided with a second car occupied by two women in their late 20s at about 8.30pm.

A man in his early 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car - also in his 20s - was rushed to Cork University Hospital with critical injuries.

The other occupants of both cars were also taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
