Woman airlifted to safety after rescue operation on Atlantic coast

Swimmer, in her 30s, got into near Querrin point, in west Clare

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being rescued from the sea in County Clare this afternoon.

The woman, in her 30s, is understood to have gotten into difficulty while swimming near Querrin point, in the west of the county.

The alarm was raised at around 2pm this afternoon.

The Irish Coast Guard and the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter was alerted and quickly responded to the scene.

The woman is receiving medical assistance at University Hospital Limerick.
