A 13-year-old boy has died after a drowning accident in the Liffey this afternoon.

Gardai say the boy entered the river at 2.30pm between Islandbridge and Chapelizod before getting into difficulty.

The garda sub-aqua team attended the scene and the teenager's body was taken from the water at around 4 o' clock.

The boy's body remains at the scene, but will be moved to St James' Hospital for a post-mortem.
