WATCH: Michael Fassbender goes back in time in the "Assassin's Creed" trailer

The adaptation of the hit video games series

Spoiler alert: The Angry Birds Movie is not the first great video-game-to-movie adaptation we'd hoped all for (50% on Rotten Tomatoes).

The next great hope - after this summer's Warcraft - is the big screen version of Assassin's Creed, which just dropped it's first trailer today.

The first game was released in 2007, and the numerous sequels since then have sold over 80 million copies worldwide.

In the movie, Michael Fassbender plays the time-travelling assassin who is sent back to the Spanish Inquisition in order to regain his ancestor's memories about the location of some thought to be long lost.

Directed by Justin Kurtzel (Macbeth, Snowtown), and co-starring Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson filling out the supporting cast, Assassin's Creed will arrive in Irish cinemas on December 30th of this year.
