Reports say the 24-year-old man climbed up next to the statue
A man attempting to take a selfie with a statue more than 100 years old got more than he bargained for, after the structure crashed to the ground.
Reports say the 24-year-old man, who has not been identified, climbed up next to the statue of Dom Sebastian in Lisbon to get a better picture.
But while standing next to it, he toppled the free-standing statue off its perch.
He is expected to face charges in front of a judge shortly.
It is not yet known when the statue will be fixed, or how much it will cost.
The statue is located outside the Rossio railway station in the Portuguese capital, which is a protected building.
Dom Sebastian was King of Portugal from June 1557 to August 1578.
