Gardaí at Crumlin Garda Station have confirmed that they are investigating an allegation regarding the death of a new born baby in the 1970's. As part of that investigation a search warrant was executed at an address in south Dublin earlier this evening.
The acting Health Minister Leo Vardakar says the debate is over in relation to the new National Children's Hospital. Children, parents and health professionals are among those welcoming the news that the facility has got the go ahead. The hospital will be going to tender in the coming weeks, and is expected to open in autumn 2020 - at a projected cost of €650m.

Five senior judges in an Oklahoma appeals court have ruled that in cases where victims are passed out after consuming too much alcohol, oral sex acts performed on them without their consent cannot be considered as rape in the eyes of the law. The unanimous decision on the legal understanding of ‘forcible sodomy’ – rape involving the mouth or anus of the victim – was not covered by an “intoxication circumstance.” Prosecutors in the Ottawa County district have described the ruling as “absurd,” arguing that the judges missed the opportunity to fix what has long been considered an unintentional loophole in the law.
