The comments were made after a spate of recent gangland activity
The Garda Commissioner says the investigations relating to recent gangland murders and activities are progressing very well.
Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan, made the remarks during the first meeting held in public, between the Policing Authority and the Garda Commissioner.
24-year-old Martin O'Rourke was the most recent victim of an ongoing feud between rival gangs in Dublin.
Mr O'Rourke was shot dead in inner-city Dublin almost two weeks ago, in a case of mistaken identity.
His murder follows four other gang related killings, since September of last year.
Commissioner O'Sullivan, says protecting communities from violent and organised crime is the top priority of An Garda Siochana: "I think it's very important that first and foremost, that there is an absolute realisation that gangland crime, organised crime, and anything that would cause harm to our communities, remains number one in our priorities."
"I mentioned earlier, in terms of- you will appreciated that there are live ongoing investigations, murder investigations and other investigations, so we are constrained in what we are able to say, other than to say that the investigation are progressing very well."
