Two people have been killed after an Amtrak train derailed in America.

Amtrak's Train 89 was heading from New York City to Savannah in Georgia when it struck a mechanical digger that was on the track at Chester.

Some 341 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

More than 30 people were also injured.

A spokesman says those taken to hospital are not considered to have life-threatening injuries.

All Amtrak services between New York and Philadelphia have been suspended.
