Angry members of a crowd attempted to rush towards a suspect as he was led away from a police station
A man has been arrested in Taiwan after a four-year-old girl was beheaded in the capital Taipei.
The incident happened on Monday morning, when the young girl and her mother were on their way to a local metro station.
CNN reports that the girl was approached by a man with a cleaver, who then attacked her.
The girl's mother told reporters that "I saw the suspect slashing my daughter with a cleaver. I immediately grabbed him but I could not pull him away".
The attack is believed to have been random.
There were 'chaotic' scenes when the suspect (33) was led from a local police station to a waiting vehicle, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency.
Members of the media swarmed around the man, before angry members of a gathered crowd attempted to rush forward. Some people reportedly yelled 'kill him!' as he was led away by police.
CNA also reports that police said the suspect had previously been treated at a psychiatric hospital.
