It happened on the Donegal to Ballybofey Road at around 3.45am this morning at Meencargagh, Ballybofey - known locally as McGrorys Brea.

One of the cars involved was a garda car, while the second was a black Fiat Punto car.

Officers from the Garda Síochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) attended the scene.

The drivers of both cars were taken to Donegal University Hospital, where their injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place.
