Attention Back to the Future fans: Self-lacing trainers have arrived

The new Nike HyperAdapt 1.0

Nike hosted their Innovation 2016 event two days ago and unveiled what is bound to be top of everyone’s Christmas wish-list this year. Brace yourself BTTF fans; self-lacing kicks are here.

The trainers have been designed by Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers, Nike’s senior innovator, who has worked on the Nike Air Yeezy and the Nike Air Mag. The new HyperAdapt 1.0 will come with adaptive lacing technology which automatically tightens once the wearer puts them on.

There’s a sensor within the shoe that tightens when the foot is inserted. There’s two buttons on the side to loosen and tighten the laces to ensure the perfect fit.

Nike had teased such a pair of trainers last year around the time of Back to the Future day. The company presented Michael J Fox with a pair of self-lacing Nike Mag shoes.
