Instagram follows Facebook’s steps to alter your feed

Instagram will put popular posts to the top of your photo feed

Instagram follows Facebook’s steps to alter your feed

The new changes will alter how you view your feed

Yesterday evening Instagram announced that it will change how a user’s feed looks. The company stated that people miss on average 70% of their feeds and often don't see posts they care about.

A statement on their website said: “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.”

This feature will kick in in the coming months.

The switch to an algorithmic feed follows in the footsteps of Facebook. This Facebook feature has been criticised in the past by some users, but Instagram are running with it. Twitter has also reconfigured its feed to work in a similar way recently.
