Singer Frances Black is to run for the Seanad.

She is being nominated by the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI), the representative body for Ireland's independent commercial radio stations.

Frances Black will run as an Independent candidate for the Industrial and Commercial panel.

Ms Black confirmed her candidacy on Twitter this morning.

Executive Director of the IBI, Lisa Ní Choisdealbha, said Frances Black is well-known to radio audiences through her music, and her work with RISE - which supports the families of those affected by addiction.
