Brian Hayes - A Grand Coalition is a "huge ask" for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael

Fine Gael's Director of Elections says that the formation of a Grand Coalition is 'a huge ask' for both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.

Dublin MEP Brian Hayes' comments come as the latest Red C Poll in the Sunday Business Post shows there would be no huge changes for the three major parties if there was another election.

He also dismissed the idea o a return to the voting booth. "The last thing the country needs right now is a general election. I think it would be a slap in the face to the electorate," he said.

The poll found that the results would be largely the same for most of the political parties with Labour and Independents faring the worst.

As far as political negotiations go, Hayes said that the results of the election mean "all bets are off."
