A robust, engaging web presence is crucial for any media brand; that includes the production and publication of original written content, as well as video, podcasts and interactive media. It is the Digital Editor’s role to maintain quality and consistency across media types and web platforms, with special attention given to driving increased traffic and brand visibility.   

Duties

Reporting to the Digital Director, the Digital Editor is responsible for taking audience-targeted web content from concept to publication by overseeing a diverse team of staff and freelance contributors and coordinating with internal programming teams. The Editor will work with staff to brainstorm content topics and then delegate assignments to in-house contributors and freelancers.  

The right candidate will be a versatile editor. S/he should possess all the abilities to write and edit quickly, concisely, accurately, and in a way that engages our audience. S/he will have demonstrated the ability to distil longer form journalism into great headlines and enticing social media conversations in collaboration with the Social Media Manager.

The right candidate has sharp taste in storytelling and rigorous news judgment. S/he will also edit digital treatments of our daily local journalism.

The Editor will also work with our newsroom, live shows and editorial teams to plan daily digital news production.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily editorial decision making on the digital production team
  • Responsible for the quality, accuracy and editorial voice of multi format content across digital platforms, including homepage and app curation
  • Creating and managing standards for all digital content, serving as champion of standards across multiple teams of writers in the organisation
  • Develop and manage online editorial calendar across multiple different content streams
  • Develop concepts for bigger stories and themes to exist across our online platforms
  • Working with the Social Media Manager to ensure content distribution is maximised
  • Measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of content and implementing recommendations to improve
  • Responsible for driving collaboration across on air and on line to maximise resource and effectiveness
  • Responsible for generating and executing commercial opportunities across digital platforms in conjunction with sales team

Additional Attributes

  • Maintain high journalistic and ethical standards and ensure accuracy and fairness
  • Experience making radio is not required, but a love of listening to it is essential

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in journalism, 3+ of which in a deadline-driven digital environment
  • Strong copy editing skills
  • Strong editorial judgement coupled with the confidence to direct work of others
  • Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to produce high quality work in a collaborative environment
  • Strong planning and organisational experience
  • Strong analytics and experience in SEO
