Tens of thousands of women were incarcerated in the laundries until they were closed in the 1990s
Magdalene women have been remembered across Ireland today in a show of solidarity.
The annual Flowers for Magdalenes events have been taking place at sites of Magdalene laundries around the country.
Many of the women who were incarcerated in the laundries died without ever being released, and funerals were rarely held for them.
Today their families of the women have gathered at their graves to lay flowers in their memory.
