They've chosen the songs to soundtrack the arrival of your child
Dr. Jacques Moritz, a New York-based pregnancy specialist, has teamed up with music streaming outlet Spotify to create the perfect playlist to accompany going into labour and giving birth.
Talking to NY Daily News, Dr. Moritiz stated: “Music strongly influences our central nervous system’s limbic system which manages our memories, emotions, and how we deal with fear and pain. [...] “It makes sense that women would turn to music during childbirth as a source of comfort and strength. [...] In addition, hospitals, particularly delivery rooms, can be noisy and disconcerting — a good playlist helps distract mothers from these sounds and better manage fear and pain, leading to a more positive delivery experience."
Moritz has created a playlist (which can be played via Spotify below, and features the likes of Coldplay, David Bowie and U2), but if you wish to create your own playlist, he advises that you choose comfortable and familiar music, most instrumentals the better (lyrics can be distracting), and stock up on entries, with playlists that can last between five and ten hours, the longer the better for first time mothers.
