A member of staff was threatened and assaulted during the robbery in Leighlinbridge
Two men have been arrested in connection with a robbery at a post office in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow.
The incident happened at around 10am this morning.
Two men - one believed to be armed with a firearm and the other in possession of a hammer - threatened and assaulted a member of staff before leaving with a sum of money.
After leaving the post office, the men fled the scene in a white coloured Honda car.
Gardaí from Thomastown assisted local gardaí in setting up checkpoints and establishing a cordon.
Officers then received a report that a white car was being set on fire near the Burrin Manor housing estate in Carlow.
Two men, both aged 27, were arrested near the scene of the fire in connection with the robbery.
An amount of cash was also recovered by gardaí.
The two arrested men are being detained at Carlow and Thomastown Garda Stations.
