UK couple charged with slavery offences after 28-year-old woman found living as domestic servant

The offences relate to the period between 2011 and 2015

A man and woman in the UK have been charged with domestic slavery offences after a 28-ear-old woman was found living in a state of domestic servitude.

The BBC reports Minu Chopra and Sanjeev Chopra, 47, of Cranbourne Road, Rochdale have been charged with offences relating to the period between 2011 and 2015.

According to police, the alleged victim is being cared for by partner agencies.

Mr Chopra will appear before Bury and Rochdale Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The couple have been charged with holding a person in slavery or servitude between 31 July 2015 and 11 February 2016, intentionally arranging or facilitating entry into the UK of a person with a view to their exploitation, and knowingly holding another person in slavery or servitude between 1 January 2011 and 31 July 2015.
