Gardai are due to introduce a targeted operation to deal with shop lifting and muggings in Dublin

This is in reaction to the new crime stats released earlier today

The new Garda figures have been announced for 2015, and they show a wide range of changes in crimes around the city.

Begging offences in Dublin City Centre rose by significant 415% in 2015.

There has also been a 12% increase in crimes against the person, with the greatest increase coming in assaults.

Gardai are due to introduce a targeted operation to deal with shop lifting and muggings in Dublin.

However, there has been 28% fewer cases of possession of firearms, while drug offences dropped by 2%.

Burglaries fell by 16% but public order offences rose 13% from 2014.
