Cold today with remaining frost and fog in northern areas clearing, as heavy and prolonged showers extend northwards to most places this morning. Some wintry falls will appear on higher ground of the west and north, while isolated thunderstorms may also occur.
Brighter, drier weather will develop for a time in southern areas later this morning, and will follow northwards this afternoon with showery conditions returning to southern areas.
Highest temperatures will range from about 3 or 4 degrees Celsius in northern areas to 8 or 9 degrees Celsius near the south coast.
Showers, some prolonged for a time this evening and early tonight in some southern and eastern coastal counties, and later tonight in western counties. Clear periods in many areas overnight with frost developing and some icy patches. Fog developing in some areas also, especially in parts of Connacht and Ulster, probably clearing later as winds freshen.
