Two men sentenced to death in Bangladesh for murder of blogger

Two men have been sentenced to death in Bangladesh for the murder of a blogger.

35-year-old Ahmed Rajib Haider - who wrote under the pen name Thaba Baba - was hacked to death with machetes in February 2013.

Police said he had angered people by criticising Islam and mocking the Prophet Mohammed on blog sites.

The two men convicted of Haider's death are university students - one of them is on the run and was sentenced in absentia.

Six other people were sentenced to prison terms, including the head of the group - Ansarullah Bangla - suspected of having carried.

BBC reports that five more secular writers and blogged were killed in Bangladesh in 2015.
