The 72-year-old minister suffered a chest infection
Finance Minister Michael Noonan says he is "well on the mend" after spending Christmas in hospital after undergoing surgery.
Noonan says he was diagnosed just before Christmas with an infection involving fluid in his chest area.
The 72-year-old, who was treated for cancer last year, says he has subsequently undergone medical procedures and is "well on the mend".
He has also confirmed he will be back at work to attend cabinet on January 5th, and still intends to contest the general election.
