Monday's weather: Rain at first, but sunny spells by afternoon

Today

Widespread rain for a time this morning but dry conditions with sunny spells will develop countrywide by afternoon. However, early tonight, rain will spread from the southwest to all areas once again. Rather windy up to early afternoon, with strong and gusty, southerly winds veering westerly, but then backing southwest and moderating for a time.

Highest temperatures today, 9 to 13 degrees, mildest in the south.

There is a Status Yellow weather warning for wind.

Southerly winds of mean speeds 50 to 65km/h will gust 90 to 100km/h, strongest winds in Atlantic coastal counties and exposed hilly areas.

Rain will continue in all parts of the country tonight, with some heavy falls likely in the west and southwest. Southwesterly winds will strengthen everywhere also, but it will be fairly mild.
