Penalty points up in 2014 by 11%

New figures from the CSO show most points were issued for speeding

The number of penalty point notices issued in 2014 was up almost 11% on the previous year.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that over three quarters of penalty point notices were issued for speeding.

Just over 11% meanwhile were given because the driver was on their mobile phone.

Men were more likely to pick up penalty points than women, with 63% of notices issued to males.
