Man appears in court in connection with alleged assault on judge in Dublin

Judge Miriam Walsh was taken to hospital after the incident, but was released a short time later

A man has appeared in court over an alleged assault on a judge in Dublin yesterday.

Judge Miriam Walsh was allegedly hit a number of times during a sitting of the family law courts in Temple Bar.

A man was arrested at the scene, and taken to Pearse Street Garda Station.

Judge Walsh was taken to hospital but was released a short time later.

A spokesperson for the Courts Service confirmed that a "violent incident" took place at the venue and said its “security systems were in place and operational at the time”, allowing gardaí to intervene.
