Pensioner's body found after floods in Monaghan

Ivan Vaughan (70) was swept away while trying to make his way home

A post mortem is due to be carried out on a body swept away by flood water in Co Monaghan.

Ivan Vaughan from Co Tyrone was discovered meters away from his vehicle on Sunday night.

The pensioner was returning from a concert in Gaslough when his car was swept off the road.

The former showband singer famously performed with the plattermen in the 1960s and 70s under the stage name 'Simon Scott'.

Sinn Féin councillor on the Mid Ulster District Council, Phelim Gildernew, expressed his condolences for the loss:

Meanwhile, Cabinet Ministers are meeting to discuss emergency funding this morning, for areas affected by flooding in the wake of Storm Desmond.
