One Fianna Fáil councillor has resigned in the immediate aftermath of the RTE programme
A TV exposé has uncovered widespread failure by politicians to declare all of their property and interests.
An RTE Investigations Unit report found that a number of local and national politicians had failed to tell the Standards in Public Office Commission about assets including farms and properties.
The RTE documentary also exposed some councillors who were prepared to accept money in return for supporting a fictitious application for a wind farm.
In the wake of the programme Fianna Fáíl have announced they accepted the resignation of Cllr Joe Queenan, who was shown in the programme.
“Tonight the Party has accepted the resignation of Cllr Joe Queenan," the party said in a statement this evening.
“Some of the behaviour displayed in tonight's programme was shocking and completely unacceptable. The instances where there appear to be clear breaches of the law need to be fully investigated by the Gardaí and prosecutions brought where appropriate.
The party will establish an inquiry "under the auspices of the Ard Chomhairle to establish the full facts in each instance and will take action as appropriate," the statement said.
“Fianna Fáil expects the highest standards from its public representatives. There is absolutely no tolerance within the party for any breaches of such standards.”
