Dublin Airport sets new record for annual passenger numbers

Dublin Airport has broken its previous record for passenger numbers in a single year.

More than 23.5 million passengers have passed through Dublin Airport so far this year, even with December traffic still to come.

It has surpassed the previous record for passenger traffic set in 2008, and represents growth of 16% since last year.

Dublin Airport says this year's growth is due to a combination of 23 new routes and additional capacity on many existing services.

New routes include Aer Lingus services to Washington, Ryanair services to Amsterdam and Copenhagen and WOW Air services to Reykjavik.

“The new routes and extra capacity contributed to a very strong summer period, as more than 5.3 million passengers used Dublin Airport during July and August, which is our busiest time of the year,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison..
