About 80% of us suffer from tension headaches when under stress
Migraines cost our economy over €250m annually - with over 500,000 people living with a headache disorder.
About 80% of us suffer from tension headaches when under stress.
However these can be for both positive and negative stress.
A conference is taking place in Dun Laoghaire this evening, to discuss the treatment and management of migraines.
Consultant neurologist at the St Vincent's Headache and Migraine Clinic, Paddy Daly, says many people will have experienced migraines recently because of the high winds.
"There's a very strong genetic background - it's really a disorder that is to do with our relationship with our environment" he said.
"People are hyper-sensitive to many of the things that go on around them: from weather in recent days, recent weeks with high, windy conditions - many people will have had a migraine generated by the changing pressures" he added.
He told Newstalk Breakfast there are better ways to treat migraines than others.
