French police say a man has been arrested after attacking a soldier at a metro station in Paris.

TheLocal.fr reports that the incident happened at the central Chatelet station at around 6.30am.

The suspect - who reportedly made a reference to Allah - was carrying a knife.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

French Defence Minister Florence Parly told Europe 1 radio that the swift resolution to the incident showed the "proof of the professionalism and efficiency".

Security remains tight in parts of France, after a series of terror attacks which have led to the deaths of more than 230 people in the past three years.
