A man and a woman have died following a crash in Cork earlier today.

The incident happened at around 11am on the N20 Cork to Mallow Road at the Waterloo Junction.

Two cars and a truck were involved in the crash.

A man and a woman in their 60s, who were passengers in one of the cars, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both are understood to have been visitors from the US who were with their partners.

The driver of the other car involved was also taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries, while the truck driver was not injured.

The road is closed while a forensic examination is carried out, and diversions are in place.

Gardaí say they are asking people travelling from Mallow to take alternative routes.
