Wind warning issued for western counties for Sunday evening

Met Éireann has issued a wind warning for western counties for Sunday evening.

The status yellow warning applies to Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

According to forecasters, very strong winds are expected to hit the western and southwestern coastal counties throughout Sunday night and early Monday morning.

They are expecting average wind speeds of 55-65km/h, as well as gusts of 90-110km/h.

Met Éireann says: "[Winds will be] strongest in the exposed hilly and coastal areas with very high seas along the coasts during this period also."

The warning comes into effect at 6pm on Sunday evening, and is valid until 9am on Monday.
