Sean Spicer has suggested he is "one of the most popular guys in Ireland", and says he is considering paid TV appearances here.

Mr Spicer finished up in the White House last week, more than a month after announcing his resignation as Donald Trump's press secretary.

He stepped down following President Trump's appointment of Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director - although Spicer ultimately outlasted Scaramucci, who was fired after only ten days in the role.

This week, it was confirmed that Mr Spicer has taken a role with Worldwide Speakers Group, and will now focus on public speaking appearances.

In an interview with Mike Allen of Axios, Mr Spicer indicated that paid appearances in the UK and Ireland are among the future possibilities he is considering.

He suggested: "The US press briefing had become part of their nightly viewing. It was a prime-time show from Europe to the Middle East... I'm one of the most popular guys in Ireland."

While he is considering writing a book 'detailing lessons learned in crisis communications', the former Trump and Republican aide is not believed to be planning a 'tell-all' about his time in the White House.

Mr Spicer visited Rome in late August for a Catholic networking event, where he met Pope Francis and Fianna Fáil TD Kevin O'Keeffe:

Despite only lasting around seven months in the role, Mr Spicer's time at the White House podium brought him intense international attention, with tens of thousands of viewers tuning into his daily press briefings.

His interactions with reporters were often combative, and he also drew criticism for a number of gaffes - such as citing a mystery Atlanta attack on three separate occasions.

His podium manner was parodied on several occasions by Melissa McCarthy on Saturday Night Live:
