Hook calls out HSE Director General Tony O'Brien

Broadcaster says Health Minister Simon Harris should have sacked HSE boss over comments

The Director of the HSE Tony O'Brien yesterday said the scaremongering around the HPV vaccine must stop or people will die.

The uptake for the cervical cancer vaccine has fallen as low as 50% from a high of 90%.

The vaccine is one of the most rigorously tested ever, but some parents remain concerned about its safety.

George Hook today said he was not happy that the take up rates on the vaccine had dropped, but that Health Minister Simon Harris should sack Mr. O'Brien, for describing a campaign against the vaccine as “a form of emotional terrorism”
