Man arrested after €1.2m in cash seized in Carlow

A man has been arrested and a large amount of cash seized during a garda operation in Carlow.

As part of Operation Thor, gardaí carried out a number of checkpoints in the county on Friday.

Shortly before 8.00pm they stopped a car at Ballyvergal being driven by a man aged in his 50s.

During the course of a search, gardaí discovered cash, worth approximately €1.2m.

A man was arrested and is being held under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act

He is being detained at Carlow garda station.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
